I just updated/added a category in this blog and, anticipating all seven of my followers’ questions, I’ve decided to post a short note about it.
Q: I thought this was a running blog. What is all this random stuff under “Halo-Halo”?!?” Also, what the hell is a Halo-Halo?
A: It is (a running blog). But I think about other things besides running, or I think about things when I’m running, or my thinking just runs.
As a Filipino-American, this category pays homage to the quintessential Filipino dessert halo-halo (Tagalog for “mix-mix”). A traditional concoction consists of a real hodge-podge of colors, flavors, and textures: sweet red beans, macapuno (coconut meat), jackfruit, pinipig (pounded dried rice), ube, (sweet purple yam), cream flan, sweetened plaintains, crushed ice, coconut milk, and ice cream. Mmmm. Here’s a photo that gives you the visual sense of the colors and diversity, and I think it’s pretty representative of me and my interests.
I’m into fantasy football and celebrity gossip. I brought Nabokov and the National Enquirer to read on my last vacation. One of my favorite movies is “Bloodsport,” and I can name all six of Henry VIII’s wives (in order, mind you). You get the picture.
So everything else not specifically running-related, is in this section of the blog. Maybe articles I enjoyed, ideas that ran through my head during mile 11 of a long run, reviews of things, travel posts, and maybe, if you’re lucky, some stuff about my dogs. Who knows what you’ll find there. I’ll try to make these posts clear so you can skip over them if you’re strictly into running. Think of this blog as a buffet. So just load up on what you like and pass over the macaroni salad.
